Get Started

We have two apps that run on the iPad: 1Password for iPad and 1Password Pro. Both are available from the iTunes App Store. 1Password for iPad is a dedicated version only for the iPad, while 1Password Pro is a “universal” app that works on the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch.

1Password For IPad

Setup

When you start 1Password on your iPad for the first time, you will decide whether to create a new database or sync all your information with 1Password on your Mac:

IPad Setup New Database Or Sync

If you want to sync via Wi-Fi with 1Password on your Mac, follow our iPad sync guide.

Similarly, if you have your 1Password data already in Dropbox then you’ll need to create a new database first and then navigate to Settings > Sync > Dropbox and follow our Dropbox syncing setup guide to sync your 1Password data.

If you’re new to 1Password and you want to create a new database, please continue.

IPad Setup Master Password

You must create a master password, used to encrypt your information and unlock 1Password so you can browse. We strongly recommend making the password long and complex, and not something like your birthday or your pet’s name. Simple passwords like that are easy for malicious hackers or even curious coworkers to crack or guess. If someone figures out your master password, they will gain access to any secure or sensitive data that you store in 1Password.

Add Your Information

You can add Logins, Accounts, Secure Notes, Identities, Software Licenses, and Wallet Items to 1Password for iPad in one of three ways: sync manually with 1Password for Mac, set up automatic syncing through Dropbox, or type them in right on your iPad.
