Getting 1Password data from iOS to Windows
If you have 1Password data on your iPhone or other iOS device, and you want to “migrate” that data to your new, empty 1Password for Windows installation, please follow these steps:
-
In 1Password on your iPhone, use the “backup & restore” feature to back up your 1Password data to your PC, and remember where you store it. (You may need to get it, later.)
-
Install Dropbox on your PC, and remember the e-mail address and password you use to set it up. (You’ll need them in step 4.)
-
Let 1Password for Windows create a new, empty keychain within your Dropbox folder structure; remember your master password; and let Dropbox finish copying your 1Password data up to your private Dropbox web site.
-
In 1Password on your iPhone, configure Dropbox syncing (using the Dropbox e-mail address and password from step 2 and the 1Password master password from step 3); and let the Dropbox sync finish.
This will have one of these results:
-
More likely: Your existing 1Password data will be preserved on your iPhone, and 1Password for Windows will be able to use it, the next time you launch the program on your PC.
Great! You’re all set.
-
Less likely: Your existing 1Password data will be removed—you’ll have the new, empty keychain on both platforms.
No worries—you’ve done step 1! Just use the “backup & restore” feature again, this time restoring the data you backed up to your PC.
Once that’s done, the Dropbox sync mechanism in the 1Password app will copy all the restored data to your Dropbox web site, Dropbox will copy all that data to your PC, and 1Password for Windows will be able to use it, the next time you launch the program on your PC.
