Safari Logins Bookmarklet
1Password touch for iPhone and iPod touch is great for viewing and editing all your top secret information. For read-only and low-security sites like social media and forum logins, it would be great to be able to login directly in Safari without launching 1Password. In 1Password 3, the Safari Login Bookmarklet makes this possible. Read on to see how.
Step 1: Open 1Password 3 and click the gear menu in the lower left of the window. Choose “New Logins Bookmarklet”
Step 2: You will be taken to a new Logins Bookmarklet entry (sporting an iPhone Safari icon) that appears in the left sidebar, under the Syncing section. You must add an access code of four digits at the top of the screen. This code will be used to encrypt your information and unlock your bookmarklet when you use it
Step 3: Pick which Logins you want to sync, then press the Update Now button in the lower right to automatically add your new Bookmarklet to Safari on your Mac. Then, sync Safari on your Mac with Safari on your iPhone via either iTunes or MobileMe
Once the bookmarklet is on your device, it is easy to use from within Safari. Simply browse to one of your Login sites, choose your 1Password Login Bookmarklet from Safari’s bookmarks, type in the access code you added in Step 2, and tap the login you wish to use.
Things to know about the Login Bookmarklet
- Login Bookmarklets are a one-way sync from 1Password to your device. You cannot edit your information in a Login Bookmarklet like you can if it were stored in 1Password touch.
- While 1Password protects you from phishing scams by not allowing your logins to be used on malicious sites, Login Bookmarklets cannot protect you in this same way. We recommend using Login Bookmarklets for low-priority or low-security Logins.
- You can create multiple bookmarklets, allowing you to use a weak Access Code (or none at all) for the low-security sites, and a stronger password for more important information.
- You can purchase 1Password touch separately from the iTunes App Store.
