    Installing 1Password

Like most Mac software, 1Password is a snap to install. After you download the 1Password.dmg file, double-click to open it and follow these simple steps to get set up:

    1Password Getting Started

Step 1: Drag the 1Password application onto the shortcut to your Applications folder

If you already have 1Password installed and running, be sure to quit it before updating to a new version. If you are asked to overwrite a previous version, select “OK.”

Step 2: Double-click 1Password in your Applications folder to start it

You will be presented with intro material and to create a fresh new emcrypted keychain to store all of your passwords, wallet items, secure notes, and more.

You need to protect this database with a Master Password, so make it a good one and be absolutely sure to remember it. Etch this password into your memory or write it down and store it in a safe place. If you forget your master password, even we cannot unlock your data—which is the whole point of using 1Password in the first place! 1Password provides absolute security for your sensitive information.

Step 3: Click “Start Using 1Password”

And away you go! Since 1Password works with most browsers like Safari, Firefox, and NetNewsWire, you will be asked to install browser extensions that allow it to fill in passwords, shopping cart information, and forms. You can install these right away or wait until later.

You will need to enter your Master Password the first time you start 1Password. That’s right, on your inaugural launch, we lock your keychain and require you to enter this password as a test run to emphasize its importance. Once you unlock your keychain, you can use 1Password’s preferences to customize how and when your keychain is locked.

That’s it! You’re ready to enjoy a more secure, convenient Internet with 1Password and just about any Mac browser.
